These
are pictures from my private collection taken during the production of
C.H.U.D. They include locations and our sets at C.H.U.D. Studios at Broadway
and Grand Street where the sets were built on the fourth floor.
To
the left is the signature manhole cover and skyline that was used by Media
Home Entertainment. It is based on a design by John and Anthony Gentile
that we used for an ad in Variety and the Hollywood Reporter to discourage
others from making a similar film based on the public domain material.

The floor was horse hair carpet padding over plastic sheeting.

John
Caglione and Doug Drexler apply a bald cap to Cary Eidel (one of the C.H.U.D.s)
in preparation for making a head and shoulder cast. John and Doug later
won an Academy Award for Dick Tracy.
Cary
Eidel's head cover with dental alginate. This is a rubbery substance when
dry. It is then covered with plaster in a way that can be removed easily
in two parts.

the alginate after removal of the plaster. John Caglione did this to Woody
Allen for Zelig. He saidWoody was in a panic throughout the
experience.

C.H.U.D. Designs
Several
designers created amazing concepts for the C.H.U.D.s. We were limited by
time to execute only a simple rubber appliance. Here are some designs from
John and Anthony Gentile.
